Enrollment options

This is a Cluster course with two classes. 090 Reading and 090 Writing. The create two part of a one-semester basic writing sequence, this course develops reading and writing skills needed to begin work in the College Writing program. The course places primary emphasis on the development of good reading skills and strategies in addition to good sentence writing skills through frequent practice. Such practice may take the form of writing journals, paragraphs, and short essays. Faculty provide attention to difficulties reading comprehension and reading strategies along with grammar, punctuation, and spelling primarily on an individual basis. The course does not satisfy any part of the College Writing requirement for graduation. Placement is determined by assessment testing or faculty referral. Upon completion of Writing Skills I (ENG-090) and Reading Skills I (ENG-090) with a grade of C or better, students enroll in Writing Skills II (ENG-095).
