Anatomy and Physiology I & II are designed to provide a comprehensive survey of the structure and function of the human body. The interrelationship between structure and function and the importance of homeostasis are significant unifying themes throughout the study of the major organ systems. The laboratory component of the courses has been designed to provide the student with the opportunity to study the organization of the human body from the cellular to the organ and system levels. The exercises are also designed to allow the student to investigate various physiological responses utilizing both mechanical and electronic laboratory equipment. These exercises should result in the development of new laboratory skills and a clearer understanding of the scientific method. The laboratory exercises have been selected to illustrate and enhance the theoretical material presented in the lectures. This course is designed to reinforce the cross-curriculum competencies: critical thinking; technology skills; oral communication; quantitative skills; reading; writing.
Anatomy and Physiology I & II are the standard prerequisite courses for admission to most nursing and other allied health programs. For students in the AS Biological Sciences programs, Anatomy and Physiology I & II(BIO203/BIO204)
may not transfer into a 4-year biology program but may be used as a program elective for the Pre- Medical Professions option.
