Throughout this course we will be strengthening various communication skills so that we can clearly achieve our specific purposes for an intended audience while enhancing our writing across different modes. We will begin with a focus on the importance for us to be critical readers of varied texts before moving through our exploration and practice of different modes of writing: narrative, expository, and argument. In practicing each mode, you can expect to critically read texts about varied topics that align in style with each respective mode (serving as model texts), hold insightful discussion about the various topics and author’s decisions explored through the texts, and finally strengthen and demonstrate your own writing skills through varied practice, assessments, and presentation.

It is expected that students of the course come to class on time and prepared with necessary materials and having completed work as assigned and on time as we use them to build upon our skills each class. Most importantly, we are a community of learners, which means that we all contribute to our understandings and growth within the course. As such, students should be prepared to thoughtfully engage with the material and with their peers throughout the varied activities and practice opportunities presented this semester.

Finally, as I want us all to be successful, never hesitate to ask for clarification or help as needed.
